Last week, Susann S, Senior Programme Manager at the Oxford SDG Impact Lab, completed her final workshop with pupils at Barton Park Primary School as part of our partnership with Climate Ed.

This was the last of six sessions were pupils at Barton Park Primary School explored the causes and effects of climate change and learned how their everyday choices impact the planet. The programme is designed to educate school children about why the Earth is getting warmer, our climate is changing and how to become advocates for small lifestyle changes to make a positive impact.

Reflecting on the experience, Susann said:
“It was a privilege to engage with such thoughtful and curious students. They asked bold questions and came up with brilliant ideas. These sessions reminded me how important it is to empower young people with knowledge, confidence and a sense of agency.”

Climate Ed is a UK charity on a mission to deliver high-quality carbon literacy education to every primary-aged child by 2030. Their unique approach combines interactive teaching, role-play and practical tools to help children understand climate science and take meaningful action. Sessions are delivered by trained volunteers and are offered free of charge to schools.

This pilot forms part of a collaboration between Climate Ed and the Oxford SDG Impact Lab, aligning with the Lab’s mission to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals through place-based education and engagement.

We are grateful for the warm welcome and the fantastic support provided by the team of Barton Park Primary School especially from yr 5/6 teacher Amy Sperrin and headteacher Bryony McCraw!
